Various Diving Programs to Suit Your Needs

Classes We Offer

We offer a variety of Recreational courses covering a variety of topics. Whether you are just thinking about SCUBA diving or are ready to become a professional diver, we have classes to suit your needs. We also offer snorkeling classes and even have classes for kids.

Can you imagine being in a tropical location diving in crystal clear water, surrounded by brightly colored coral and fish. You and your buddy put on your dive equipment to enter the water and explore the abundance of marine life -- all the while hovering weightlessly underwater. Or, you could be off exploring a new shipwreck off the coast of a small island out in the middle of the ocean - where conditions are challenging.

You're ready for anything because you've invested in the right training and have gained valuable hands-on experience. Is being prepared worth it? You bet!

Do you have to travel to these areas to learn to dive or take a continuing education course? You can if you like. However, you can also choose to learn most of these skills in areas relatively close to where you live.

Experience Programs

You don't have to be a certified diver to participate in Dive World's Experience programs. However, as you can see by the flowchart, some of the programs are designed to give you credit toward becoming a fully certified diver at your Instructors discretion.

Skin Diver

The Skin Diver program takes your underwater adventures to new depths, literally!

During your program you'll learn about the equipment, diving science, the environment, problem management and the local area. In addition, you'll practice techniques of breath hold skin diving, entering the water, checking your buoyancy, surface swimming, snorkel clearing. It'll also build your confidence in your skin diving abilities and help you to explore the mysteries of the aquatic realm.

The Skin Diver program is an is also an excellent pre-training experience for children who want to explore the possibilities but are too young to dive with scuba in the open water or before trying the Bubblemaker program.

Scuba Diver

Thinking of getting certified for an upcoming vacation, but don't have the time to put into a regular diver course? Now there's a quick and easy program designed especially for you! This is your chance to slap on some fins, strap on a mask and experience an intense adventure in a short amount of time. The Scuba Diver program is a pre-entry level certification that is perfect for vacationers or people who only plan to dive a couple times a year.

During the course of the program you will use the Open Water Diver Manual and Video or multimedia CD-ROM. Credit earned in this program can be used toward the Open Water Diver certification. The Open Water Diver course uses the same materials as the Scuba Diver course, so already you are on your way to continuing further dive adventures.

Open Water Certification

The Details.

The program starts with a prequalification interview. This is to insure there are no medical problems that could effect or create dive related problems. A short questionnaire is used for this evaluation. This is followed by a briefing on program details (usually about 5 minutes) and then home study materials are discussed and provided. The 10 to 15 minutes required for the prequalification allows you to meet the staff, see the pool in which you will begin scuba diving, and to have all questions answered on your certification program. In addition, a tentative schedule is established for the pool diving portion as well as for your first exciting exploration of open water diving.

Weekend 1

Pool time is usually scheduled for the first weekend after your prequalification interview. Saturday starts with a short review of the materials covered in the home study program (you either watched a dvd and read the Manual or used the eLearning on your computer). We want to insure there were no unanswered questions on the materials covered. This is followed by several hours in the pool, "learning by diving".

Sunday, the routine is repeated, with you developing a number of new skills, as well as reviewing the activities of Saturday.

Weekend 2

It's Saturday and it's time to go the lake. It's time to visit the friendly fish, all waiting in about 25 feet of water for a handout. It's time to see the bass as they keep their distance, but also satisfy their curiosity about these new underwater explorers who are visiting their home. You also will repeat the skills you learned in the pool. It's a fun day of diving that usually ends about 3 in the afternoon.

Sunday is a repeat of Saturday, providing more experience and more fun. After completion of the final dives you are qualified to receive your Open Water Certification and then it's barbecue time. What better way for people in Texas to celebrate than with a barbecue! It also provides an opportunity to visit with all the other divers who are there, enjoying a day at the lake.

While this is brief, it provides a general idea of the agenda for obtaining your Open Water Certification. We also offer evening classes, meeting twice weekly for two weeks, followed by the Open Water certification dives.

For those whose schedules conflict with the above, we also offer private classes that can meet at your convenience. On site pools allow us to meet your needs at your convenience.
